Primary 5

Rotary Games - 13 May

We left the school at about nine twenty, I sat beside Grace and Niamh on the bus on the way there.  We went to the Lynch Sports Centre.

We went to a hall and found out that our colour was green. We were competing against Barnhil and Invergowrie as well as Eastern's P5B.  There were three sports - football, hockey and basektball.  Our team did hockey and basketball.

We had our lunch back up the stairs at twelve o'clock then went back down stairs.  Our throats were really sorte after all the cheering!

In the afternoon we did relay races "Come on the Greens!" we cheered.  It was amazing.  Our team was doing so well.  We had a student to help each team.  Our student was Bret.

At the end the scores were revealed.  We came fourth with 96 points but the main thing was we had lots of fun!

The Scottish afternoon was smashing!

The P5s were great, they were dancing, singing and a bit of poetry was recited.  They had about 80 parents and relatives there!  That is a lot!  They all looked smart in their tartan and checked clothes. They danced well and they did good singing .The poetry made the crowd laugh. Well done to the P5s.

Desperate Danwich Goes Ahead at last!

Kieran and Martina finally got to go to the "Desperate Danwich" event they did not get to go to previously as it was cancelled due to being rained off!

Martina's sandwich had two layers.  On it was cod, prawns, cucumber, and lettuce. Kieran's sandwich had only one layer but sounded equally as tasty.  On it was mayonnaise, grapes, lemon, chicken and spinach. There were only 10 children chosen from the whole of Dundee and two of them were from Eastern so they did really well representing the school.

Neither Martina or Kieran won the competition but they still had a great time.  Well done to both!

Trip to Sensation

On Monday 26th October, P5a and P5b went to Sensation.  We left at twelve in the afternoon and came back at two-thirty in the afternoon.  When we got there, we got separated into two groups.  P5a was group 2 and p5b was group 1.  We got to play for round about twenty minutes.  We played on the big nose and some of us played on the computers.  The adults that were there were Mrs Snee, Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Nicholson.  We also went into the cinema to look at the planets.  We looked at Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Earth, Mercury, Neptune and Venus.  We also looked at the Sun.

Harvest Hope

On the 30th of September 2009, P5's performed a play called Harvest Hope.  Here are a couple of P5 children's thoughts about doing the Service ....

We had a lot of practise but I think that the show turned out great.  I loved the auditions, I liked to see the different talents that everyone had.  We had to line up in lines to go on to the stage and when my line walked on to the stage my heart was beating so fast. The first song was called Everybody Come to the Harvest Fair.  This song had dancers doing a routine and I was one of them.  I was really scared and nervous because I thought that I might make a mistake.

................. to be continued.

Abbey, P5B

We had to practise over and over again fixing everything that was out of place. When we practiced the songs I think the second last song was the hardest to remember. When we auditioned we had to do a few lines of what that character did.

Before the presentation started I was feeling extremely nervous and I thought that I was going to mess everything up. I was also very excited because after all its not every day that you get to perform on the stage!

I think personally to me the best bit was when we did the last song for the second time.  I chose that bit because it was clear that people are dying in countries like Africa, Burma and India.

When the presentation was over I was quite happy that it was over and out of my head but at the same time I felt sad. I felt as if the performance did go quite well AND i PLAYED MY PART PROPERLY. I was meant to be greedy and boy was I hungry!

This year the teachers for P5 are Mrs Howard and Mrs Palmer for 5a and Mrs Ord for P5b.

This term P5 had a competition to create the perfect healthy sandwich, the two winners were Kieron and Martina, but unfortunately their trip to the Dundee flower and food festival to make their marvellous sandwiches got called off because of heavy rain.  Half of the children from each class were also meant to be going to the food and flower festival, with two local artists coming in for the rest of the children.
