Dalguise Models

P7 have made wonderful models of the attractions at Dalguise.

Our group made a wonderful archery model with bent metal and rubber bands to make the bows and cocktail sticks for the arrows which we could actually launch!  We all made models like the Giant Swing, Raft Building, Challenge Course, Zip Wire and The Forest Walk.

First of all football news .....

Sadly, Eastern narrowly missed out on winning against Forthill on Tuesday 25 May. The team played brilliantly but lost 4-3 in the Burgess Cup in the last minute!

Last week both P7 classes went along to Orchar to play rugby with Barry, a rugby specialist. The sun was shining and everyone had a great time. Oh and on Thursday 20 May, the sevens went along to the McDonalds super football festival at Dawson Park. Once again the sun was shining and we played football for two hours ! There were about 40 pitches and there was 8 boys' teams and 8 girls' teams from various Dundee schools. On a bad note, the bus broke down on the way back so we had to wait for another two to get everyone back to school. Eventually we got back to school!

Date: 26 May 2010

On Wednesday 12th May p7a and p7b went to Edinburgh with loads of other schools from Dundee and all over the country.   There were over 8 thousand P7 children there!  It was for a choices for life event to make sure that we make the right decisions in life like not drinking alcohol under age and not taking drugs. There were live bands playing and there were little stories like Paul's story telling us his misfortune and what happened to him when he took drugs.  There was also a live drama performance that really made us think about the effects and consequences of taking drugs and alcohol.

Dalguise

We are now back from Dalguise and we all had a very good time. We did all sorts of activities such as the giant swing, trapeze, zip wire and loads more fun stuff. We also went on a long forest walk and the instructors told us stories about what happened in the forest in certain places like the hanging tree or the old ruins of Tim's house. There was a place in the forest called the drop bear forest and in the the drop bear forest you had to have two sticks held at your head and whistle so the bears know there is more than one person so they will not drop on you if you have horns.
Our school was the first ever school to go on the brand new zip wire. We were staying in brand new dorms too called Faskally and Skiach and they were very good. The food was very tasty and everyone enjoyed our meals. Also by far the most muddy and fun activities was the challenge course and we had to go through the TUNNEL OF DOOM! It was freezing but still great fun though . Ethan said it was "awesome" and Tom said it was "really really good"  It really was a great week and everyone enjoyed it.

This is what some people had to say about the trip to Dalguise ....

Caelan said ....

"I had great fun at Dalguise and all the activities were brilliant. "

This is what Josh had to say about it,

"I had a great time but what I thought was the best was the challenge course because we got mud EVERYWHERE and we had to go through the Tunnel Of Doom which was great.  I really miss it now"

Ross said ....

I really enjoyed my trip to Dalguise, I shared a room with Nairn, Jacob and Caelan. It was really good fun with them at night we scoffed our sweets and drinks . I liked the entertainment at night like cluedo and games ! My favourite and first activity was the giant swing. Me and my friend Matthew went right to the top
my nerves were getting the better of me but we went to the top. I never liked the trapeze I went to the middle of the tree and got frightened . My favourite meal was the sweet and sour chicken
!"

P7's all had a great time and would love to go again.

We are starting rugby soon with our rugby specialist outside on the astroturf.  This will be going on for the next three weeks. As you may know, the whole of P7 are heading off to Dalguise on Tuesday 4th of May and we are staying there until the 7th.  We are all looking forward to it very much.  We will be sharing rooms with 4 - 6 persons and taking part in several activities like the giant swing, the forest walk, Jacobs ladder and maybe even archery and fencing. Craig said he is going to have fun. Fraser said he is looking forward to the giant swing.

The Spring Fayre

As you know P7s helped organise the spring Fayre on Saturday the 13th of March. There were lots of stalls like .... nail painting, face painting, tombola, raffles and lots of things to buy for Mother's Day. Everyone had lots of fun helping with the stalls and buying stuff. There was also a doughnut and hot dog stall for when we got hungry! We are thanking everyone who came and took part in the fayre and the grand total that we raised altogether was estimated at around about £2700 to put towards more games and stuff for the playground.

Not long to go .....

The Primary Seven's have been so busy preparing for their show "We'll Meet Again" to be held on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 March at Bonar Hall.  It is great news that tickets have been selling so quickly and there are hardly any left ..... so, if you would like to come along, please get your tickets from the school office as soon as possible.  All tickets are priced £6.  This is a fantastic production and will be a very enjoyable evening's entertainment.  We are all looking forward to it very much but are beginning to get a little nervous.  Some of us, however, are very confident and excited.  We are sure it will be a night to remember! (Hopefully!)

P7 Rocks!

Both P7 classes have a new topic all about rocks.  In art, we made out of clay some cool shapes of rocks then we painted them in pretty colours using glitter paint to make them more interesting. Here are some pictures of our rocks.

There are lots of different of rocks on the earth - there are igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.  The Earth has three layers under the crust - the mantle, inner and outer core.

Grove Guidance Team Visit

On Monday 22 February, the Grove Guidance team came to speak to the primary 7 pupils about their transition up to Grove. Some of the guidance team were former Eastern pupils, they were very helpful and answered all of our questions very well. Lots of questions were asked about all of the different clubs that go on at Grove, such as the footballl club and the Science club and so on. There is also going to be a swimming club which will take place in the swimming pool, that has been newly built in Grove.

All of the p7s are very, very excited about their transition up to Grove.

Burns' Poetry Competition

This year to celebrate Robert Burns day each stage of the school, from Primary 1 right up to primary 7, took part in learning a Scottish Poem.

Primary 1 The Snawman
Primary 2 The Crocodile
Primary 3 The Circus
Primary 4 My Love Is Like a Red Red Rose
Primary 5 The Magic Pizza
Primary 6 On Scaring Some Water Foul in Loch Turret
Primary 7 To a Haggis

The P7's had to learn all eight verses of "To a Haggis".  Everyone had to say their poem in front of the class, everyone did very well and then the class voted for who thought they had done the best at reciting their poem.

The Primary 7 finalists were Carly, Fraser, Jon, James and Ruth.

The Primary 7 overall winner was Carly.

Carly said "I am very pleased to have won this award."

Below is all eight verses of Address To a Haggis

Address to a Haggis.

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
'Bethankit' hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi perfect sconner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit:
Thro bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,
Like taps o thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
Gie her a Haggis!

P7 Christmas Fair

On Tuesday the 15th of December Primary 7 Super Snowmen held their fabulous Winter Wonderland Christmas Fair. There were a number of various stalls selling Christmas arts and crafts, as well as lots of exciting games and activit stall.

There was also a very successful cake and candy stall. There were lots of goodies to buy because so many people brought in their homemade cakes and treats. All in all it was great fun and an exciting day for everyone involved.

Max said, "The Christmas fair was a lot busier than we had previously expected and very successful as we managed to earn £735.49, which was very good."

Craig said, "It was very , very good fun being able to work on a stall and help all of the infants."

The money raised by the sevens will go towards funding the transport to Dalguise in May.

Girls' Football

On the same day that the boys went to a dance festival, the girls of P7 all went on a trip to take part in a football festival at Soccer World!

They played 10 games and only had a 5 minute break in between! The other teams taking part were St Andrews, Barnhill and Craigiebarns. They arrived back at 3.15 exhausted but had a good time.  Only bad thing that happened was that Hollie broke her wrist!  Get better soon Hollie!

Anyone for a Dance ....

On Thursday 1st October, all the P7 boys went on a trip to the University Dance Studios to take part in a Dance Workshop.  35 boys attended in total!

Here is Josh's impression of the workshops ....

"At first, we were a bit worried about going because we thought it was going to be embarrassing.  However, when we went it was really good.  It is very different from any other type of dance as it was creative dancing.  We had to pretend to make shapes with our bodies and we also imagined that we were basketball players scoring slam dunks!"

"There were 2 workshops with a different instructor.  At the end we did a dance off with a partner when we had to pretend we were pirates and do various dance moves as well as shout "Charge" very loudly!"

Caelan thought the dance workshops were "very good because one of the instructors was in a wheelchair but that didn't stop her from doing all sorts of dances and really enjoying herself".

Prefects

P7 Pupils have been given extra responsibility this year.  We've had the chance to help out around the school and at playtime.  There were lots of volunteers and our tasks include helping with the P1 and 2 lines as well as helping the younger ones at lunchtime, putting out games in the playground and more! This new system has been going well so far.  This new idea has been organised by our Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs Snee.
